On May 11, 1933, actor Fredrico de la Vega was taken into custody in connection with the Pacific Palisades kidnapping and assault of actress Nancy Torres from Mexico City.

Torres, 22, told police that she had fainted in front of a Pacific Palisades mansion after escaping from a band of abductors.

According to The Modesto Bee, Torres was found May 10 on the doorstep of the home of businessman S.L. Schoeman. The newspaper said she was hysterical and bleeding from the nose and mouth, and was wearing an evening gown and fur coat. The actress told police that she had been kidnapped and robbed after a longtime friend and escort became involved in a fight at a nightclub.
