Trying to figure out how to celebrate Independence day this year? Why not head over to Main Street in Santa Monica on the 4th to catch the 9th Annual Parade? Beginning at 9am, the annual 4th of July parade begins at Main Street and Pico and moves south on Main to Marine, then heads west to the beach parking lot. From bands to cyclists, vintage cars and families strolling, this annual event draws thousands of viewers who are attired in red, white and blue along with the parade participants. “Inspirational Heroes,” this year’s parade theme will feature grand marshal, Will Montgomery, former Special Olympics athlete and Special Olympics Global Ambassador, and a resident of Santa Monica.

If you’re looking for something later in the day? Cruise on up to Pacific Palisades for a coastal Independence Day extravaganza. Starting just before 2pm, a band of patriotic skydivers will descend from the sky, kicking off the neighborhood’s colossal parade. The parade begins on Sunset Boulevard, between Via de la Paz and Drummond. General admission to the parade is free, but if you want to avoid chauffeuring whipper snappers on your shoulders all day, splurge for VIP grandstand seating (from $25).

The festivities continue at 5:00pm with a concert and fireworks at 9:00pm ($10 for both), at the Palisades Charter High School where there will be gourmet food vendors galore!
